Overseas Holidays, Trips and Breaks –Are your Gadgets really covered?

In this day and age, everyone has a mobile phone/ smartphone, tablet, laptop, or even all three. You probably have a camera, headphones or Mp3 player to go along with all your communication devices.

How many of you have been in a phone shop, taken out a new or upgraded contract and been asked – ‘do you need insurance?’

You then get a long “pitch” as to why you should pay an extra £6 to £12 a month to cover a phone you are pretty certain you will not break or lose! And for those of you that take that cover, do you ask what would happen if you broke it, or it got stolen when on holiday? Most of the time it involves a hefty excess or even nothing at all when you read the fine print.

However, when you look at the cost of a phone, tablet or a laptop, they mostly tend to range in price from between £300 to £600, with most of the latest smartphones costing £600 or more. Hefty price tags were you to break it or it is stolen. You don’t want to have to go back to that old “brick of a telephone” when you have just taken out a contract on the latest most up to date version!

Many of us are similar and believe in our general day-to-day routines, our gadgets are safe and secure under our own control whether it be in a pocket, handbag or rucksack. Many people take the gamble that nothing will happen – not something we would recommend.

And also….. what happens when we go on holiday?

Smartphones are becoming the camera option for holiday snaps and videos, tablets are becoming the gaming device for long trips and flights. Meaning they are always in and out of the pocket or bag on holiday constantly being used and when you are in your beach or pool gear, and often with no place to put them.

This is just the time the inevitable happens and they are broken or stolen.
